Tears in Heaven

Ewing's Sarcoma is a form of cancer that is most common in children from ages 10-20. It is a cancer that effects both the bone and the soft tissue but most commonly starts in the bones.
Five-year survival for localized disease is 70% to 80% when treated with chemotherapy. Long term survival for metastatic disease can be less than 10%.

Amanda, a beautiful, 22 year old woman was diagnosed a number of years ago. After major leg surgery to replace the bones in her leg, she was in remission and they found no cancer. Not long after, she fell sick again and they found that the cancer had come back and metastasized. It is now through her bones bone marrow and soft tissue.

Amanda is in Houston, staying with her family and essentially waiting. She is no longer doing chemo, just a steady drip of medicine to ease the pain.

After posting some images from our legacy session we were contacted to do a session for Amanda. The plan was originally to fly to Las Vegas and photograph her during her 'make a wish' type trip. Things changed and Amanda was not able to make it. I flew to Houston and met with the family at home and photographed Amanda with her friends and family.

I also had the chance to photograph Candis Amanda's sister-in-law. She is pregnant and due in august!

I was very blessed to be able to come into their lives at this time and photograph them. I learned a lot about life in the few hours I had with them. I admire Amanda and her family for the great strength they have. I would wish them the best but the outcome is certain, I wish them continued strength in this time of great adversity.

Here is a link to Amanda's slide show. Please leave your comments here, We would love to read what your thoughts are.

Thank you so much for sharing that slideshow with all of us. I was at my best friend's bedside when he died of cancer after having it come back for the third time. He was around the same age. Your words included in the slideshow were inspired. That and the music made it all the more powerful along with the story behind it. After experiencing the loss of our own child, my heart breaks for this family. I pray that they may find peace from Him who offers peace to all who seek Him.
